Get to know

What is e-waste?

E-waste is any old, unused or broken electronic appliance including computers, mobile phones, printers and related consumables such as cartridges, CDs and batteries. E-waste is growing between 8% and 11% each year making it one of the fastest growing waste streams in the world and a hazard to the environment and human health if not disposed of properly.

Why is e-waste a problem?

A study conducted on e-waste in Rwanda found that end-of-life electronic and electrical equipment contains hazardous substances with potential toxicity for people and planet. If not properly managed, these substances can cause damage to our blood, kidneys, as well as central and peripheral nervous systems.
