Enviroserve Rwanda Green Park is a private company dedicated to electronic and electrical waste recycling, green growth, and the circular economy. Enviroserve is pioneering e-waste management in East Africa and operates the region’s only state-of-the-art e-waste dismantling and recycling facility.

What is e-waste?

E-waste refers to electronic products nearing the end of their "useful life". For example, computers, televisions, printers, solar products, and more. Many of these products can be reused, refurbished, or recycled.

A study conducted on e-waste in Rwanda showed that electronic and electrical equipment reaching the end of life contains hazardous substances with potential toxicity leading to negative environmental impacts (e.g. lead, mercury, cadmium, batteries, brominated flame retardants, chlorofluorocarbons). If not properly managed, these substances can cause damage to our blood, kidneys, as well as central and peripheral nervous systems.

Enviroserve Rwanda accepts all types of electrical and electronic waste including:

  • – IT and telecommunications equipment, 
  • – Consumer equipment, 
  • – Solar products and lighting equipment, 
  • – Electrical and electronic construction tools, 
  • – Toys, leisure and sports equipment, 
  • – Medical devices, 
  • – Monitoring and control instruments, 
  • – Batteries, Metals, Plastics, and more.
 

After collecting e-waste materials from different institutions, Enviroserve Rwanda separates materials that can be refurbished and recycled, while others are disposed of in an eco-friendly manner.

Enviroserve has 15 years of experience operating the world’s largest electronic and specialized recycling facility. Enviroserve Rwanda is the first company licensed by Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority following the new regulations governing e-waste management in Rwanda. For companies that give equipment which are still working, Enviroserve and the private entity will come to an agreement based on the materials and any payment – unless they are for repair. Materials collected from government institutions become the property of Enviroserve as authorised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Enviroserve Rwanda provides data erasure and data destruction services under licence of Wisetech Dubai an international company that specialises in data erasure and destruction worldwide. When private or government institutions send devices containing data to Enviroserve, data destruction or data erasure is undertaken by Enviroserve at a fee.

When a client sends their e-waste materials to Enviroserve for repair, they are welcome to observe how Enviroserve repairs their equipment with permission from Enviroserve operations team and following all safety protocols.

Enviroserve’s main focus is collecting electronic and electrical materials, but we can also collect other waste in a bid to preserve and create an eco-friendly environment, protecting human life.

When private companies give their e-waste materials to Enviroserve, they contribute to the protection of the environment and human health, they earn income from selling e-waste materials to Enviroserve based on the value and quantity, and they get certificates. Working with Enviroserve also supports green job creation and technical skills development.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry has given Enviroserve permission to collect all e-waste materials from government institutions for free.
